Lean Back
“Lean Back” - My first experience with eye drops.
White and green.
Hints of black.
Observant and fast as they move
forth and back.An unbelievable source of Ocular refreshment
Touts my friends.
I’ll stand in a down pour face to the sky
and fear to my side.
And still, my eyes are:
Abhorrent
Apprehensive…
Absolutely needing these drops.
“Lean Back”
Live on the edge.
“Look at the ceiling”
“This isn’t something you’ll be feeling”
Can you please stop blinking?!
she held that small bottle between her fingers.
“I promise when this is done you’ll feel so much better”
Drip.
Blink.
One eye not clearly seeing anything.
Drip.
Blink.
Hazy and clouded I see. A mirror of just how I feel.
the cold discarded drops run down my face
masquerading as some sort of half tear.
Blink.
“holy shit you guys”
my discomfort not one of their immediate concerns.
“shutup, it feels good”
I think: that burns.
And it did. Like suddenly crying in the ocean.
Like the cheap perfume they spray on you walking around in Sterns.
And as I blinked, over and over.
I came to one realization:
It burns.
It burns.
